Digital Marketing in 2016: Year At a Glance
Quick disclaimer before you start reading: if you’re too lazy to read the entire content of this article on digital marketing services in 2016, which is a loss from your side, you can hop onto the short but informative infographic.
2017 is now officially here and predictions about digital marketing and its trends have long been made by other influencers within this industry. BUT before we turn our inner prediction guru mode on, let’s firstly reflect on how 2016 went for us, the digital marketers.
First and foremost, I suggest we take a look at statistics of marketing services that gained more success and better ROI for companies throughout the year. This will help us make assumptions to pay more attention to and invest means into that service accordingly.
Being a content writer, I am very, oh very, pleased to say that Content Marketing is leading the chart via many surveys. Among some of those I came across this bold statement made by Inc. “Businesses want more content marketing”. Let’s figure out the reason behind it though. I always say that “good content can do magic and can convince like no other”. And yes, I strongly believe in that. The result is what you get in the form of higher revenues, more popularity, bigger number of conversions, and so on and so forth.
However, marketing is not only about persuading your clients. It is also a part of something bigger: it’s about providing customers with valuable information, be that about your existence or any other aspect concerning your product. And apparently, I was right, and content marketing is now on top because it proved to be the most effective strategy in closing deals, gaining fame among consumers and more importantly educating them.
“Good content can do magic and can convince like no other”
Second game changer in this industry is Social Media Marketing (SMM). More and more people are starting to use social media and constantly switch between its various platforms. Three million advertisers are now using Facebook to reach their customers, AdWeek says. All of you are probably tired of hearing the cliche of “Social media being one of the most widely used techniques”. But again as I like to say, there is a reason that something becomes cliche: means there is truth in it. SMM is a good working strategy for digital marketing that runs best for almost all companies for a number of solid reasons. One of those reasons is the abovementioned fact that social media has got a huge reach among consumers.
The other reason is that it actually allows you to run your online campaign effectively via any type of content and information you decide to use. You can do it with plain content or visuals such as photos, GIFs, videos, etc. The third reason for social media effectiveness can be the fact that it usually doesn’t cost you much. Voila, here you have the most general reasons of why social media marketing is efficient in reaching company’s goals.
The other best and most practiced technique is SEO Marketing. We all know that a great amount of traffic comes from organic search. That is exactly why companies are going viral trying to optimize all their campaigns in a way that will earn them more leads and get them on Google tops. And let’s be honest here, that’s what we do more often than not: go on google and search for something. 70-80% of users ignore the paid ads and focus on the organic results, according to imFORZA. Which happens to magically bring us to the next point of statistics: Paid Advertising.
Paid advertising does indeed work for a good chunk of consumers. Pay-per-click (aka PPC) advertising is a good choice if you use it smart. Google AdWords can do magic for you, don’t get me wrong, but 2016 has shown that along with the magic of bringing more traffic to your page, sometimes it ends up with no other gains apart from the number of leads. Of course you could majorly benefit from it too, if the long tail keywords you use get your ad on google’s best side. But for the sake of any other chance you might lose your money, I’d do a thorough research and see if that would work best for my business in particular. Because you have to remember, same strategy might work well for one business, and work differently for the other. That’s just me being super reasonable right there.
Digital marketing is and will be one of the most, if not the most, effective ways for your company to get the trophy of more income and popularity. 2016 proved to be beneficial for online marketing. A lot has to be learned from the achievements made throughout the year, because 2017 is only going to continue emphasizing the need of well performed digital marketing. So you might want to keep an eye on those accomplishments to find out for yourself which strategy works best for you.
I hope you had a good start of the year, because it’s time to get back to work, get your marketing strategy for the year going and conquer some major trophies in this era of online competition.
